I am writing to update regarding Ms Garcia, a 28-year-old student, whose features are consistent with bacterial meningitis, for further assessment and management.
Ms Garcia, initially presented on 23-may 2015 with complants of neck stiffness, serystily to light, headache and rash for the last 7-days. On examination, her vitals signs was inremackable. Petechial rash was noted on her abdomen and legs along with bruises on the left arm. Therefore, relevant blood investigations were ordered and lumber puncture was performed. Diagnosis was confirmed after investigations. Treatment was started with dexamethasone and ceftriaxone before the result of lumber puncture. lumber puncture releaved elevated WBC count along with high protein, and showing low glucose level. Subsequently microscopic and culture report confirm Neisseria menigitis. However, she was commenced benzl pervittiin which improved her condition.
In view of the above, Ms Garcia's family needs medical attention for mexplaned illness and chemoprophylaxis is highly recommeded for close contacts.
